Toy Cleaning protocol

No one likes borrowing a dirty toy

Please follow this information on how to clean your toys before returning.
Always set aside time to clean toys well before returning them to the toy library.  Wash hands before and after cleaning toys.

How to Clean and Disinfect Toys

  • Clean off visible dirt with soap and water.
  • Spray the toys with disinfectant. Allow the disinfectant to remain in contact with the toy for one minute and then wipe off.
  • Toys that are likely to be mouthed by children should be rinsed with water after they are disinfected.

Non porous toys/hard surfaces:
Please be mindful of toys that may have cracks and openings where submerging them would allow water inside.

Soft toys:
If there are no battery components these should be laundered in a hot water setting.

Puzzles:
With puzzles put together, wipe over puzzle with a DAMP soapy washcloth and let dry.

Electronics:
Clean and disinfect by wiping down electronics.  Do not submerge.

Notes on disinfectants – Disinfect using a diluted household bleach solution, alcohol solution with at least 70% alcohol, and most common EPA-registered household disinfectant should be effective.

Appropriate bleach solution to disinfect:
5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water or
4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water
